Congratulations to Clean Mats, Palmyra Chamber of Commerce “Shining Star” business of the month for February 2018. Left to right: Palmyra Chamber President, Heidi Deuster, Clean Mats owners, Rick Ball and Lynn Marie Ball.
Clean Mats of Palmyra named Palmyra Chamber
business of the month.
Owning a home based business, for many people, means freedom, commitment, and independence. For Rick and Lynn Marie Ball it also means being able to love where you live, and be an integral part of the Palmyra community.
While the company today is called Clean Mats, it started 34 years ago as Westside Services, a carpet and hard floor cleaning business. As Rick tells it, “Customers always asked how to keep their floors cleaner longer. We realized walk-off mats keep outside soils from entering the buildings, and will stop soil at the door. We purchased 4 mats for a customer, picked them up every 2 weeks & replaced them with clean mats. Our first check was for $12.00 that month.”
Shortly thereafter, Clean Mats was born! That was over 25 years ago. The company now services over 300 businesses in Southeastern Wisconsin! They employ 8 people, and are open from 6am to 5pm Monday thru Thursday, and 6am to 3pm on Friday.
In addition to providing clean mats, the company also rents wet and dry mops, various types of towels, automotive rags, linen napkins and table cloths. They also offer cleaning of customer-owned goods including coveralls, worksheets & pants, as well as large items such as snowmobile covers, boat covers, and throw rugs. Luckily for the local horse community, they also clean and repair horse blankets.
Although there are companies offering similar services in southeastern Wisconsin, Clean Mats is the only one of its kind in the Palmyra area. When asked what sets your company apart from the rest, Lynn Marie quickly answered, “Personalized customer service. We treat our customers like family, and are available to them 24/7. When you call Clean Mats, you will most likely talk with an owner or a local employee.”
In keeping with the Ball’s commitment to the Palmyra community, they both participate in community organizations. Rick joined the Palmyra Area Chamber of Commerce in 1984, and was president for many years. Lynn Marie was Chamber secretary for 2 years. They are both still very active members, and work closely with Chamber events and fundraisers. Rick has also been a member of Lions Club for several years, as well as Palmyra fire and rescue EMT. They also donate their services to Touched by a Paw, a local cat shelter in Whitewater, by washing blankets.
Their success is no accident. Hard work, and dedication to customer service have been the foundation for growing their business. Love of community, and being one of those rare couples who actually enjoy working together, has enhanced the experience.
